this article: I always called it the Law of Attention. My friend Michael Losier wrote his best-selling book and called it the Law of Attraction. Recently, everyone tuned into "The Secret" since it hit the Oprah Show. Whatever you call it, it's all about the science of attracting more of what you want (and less of what you don't). I like to tell the story of what happened when I relocated to Victoria a few years ago (I’m back in Vancouver again, but this is a great story!). I moved into my lovely new nest, perched on the edge of a fairyland forest (complete with visiting Bambi) and the ocean just down the hill. But it was an empty nest. Literally starting over again, I had no furniture except a bed and two chairs, with a few mismatched dishes, pots and pans. So I started by making my list. With no attachment to logical considerations (like cost of goods compared to amount of money in my chequing account), I made a list of ALL my desires for my new abode. I took some time to close my eyes and visualize my home, furnished and full of all the items on my list. I really got into the FEELING of what it would bring me. Joy, Beauty, Tranquility, Sanctuary, Peace. Yum! Then I hit the estate sale circuit. Now I'd never taken on estate sales before, so this was an exciting new experience. Armed with my list and a mega-mug of organic French Roast, and friend in tow, off we cruised to find our bargains. Woo-hoo! Three hours later, the vehicle was stuffed to the roof with treasures. A brand new microwave and thermal coffeemaker for $3, a lovely 6' silk ficus tree for $5, and a gorgeous thousand dollar oriental hand-woven carpet for $15. Then an oak desk and ergonomic chair for $35. Add to that a rosewood dining room suite and custom-built couch for a staggering fraction of their value. Almost everything on my list had a big check-mark beside it. By this point I was so into the swing of bartering that when we switched to the country fair to pick up some vegetables, I started bartering for a Camembert. The poor woman was speechless - who was this lunatic bargaining over a cheese? But she gave me a deal anyway, with a big smile on her face because we were laughing so hard. And I can't begin to tell you how much FUN we had. Between estate sales and a lot of being in the right place at the right time, I had a beautifully-furnished and decorated home with cupboards full of household items for such a miniscule outlay of cash that even as a full believer in the Law of Attraction, I was astonished. As a sidenote, when I returned to Vancouver a few months ago and wanted an entertainment unit for the den, I visualized what I needed. That very same night, my Manly Man and I were out for our evening saunter through the new ‘hood, and there was the entertainment unit on the sidewalk with a “Free” sign on it. Really. When I pull out Michael Losier's book, Law Of Attraction, I’m reminded of what he wrote on the inside cover when he autographed it for me all those years ago: "Christine, Dream Big and Allow Bigger!" I’m now applying the Law of Attraction to WOW on an even larger scale. This event began five years ago with a dream, no event knowledge, no budget and a credit card. Last year we had almost a thousand women join together for a spectacular world-class day at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. And now I’m taking WOW worldwide, for the global empowerment and celebration of women. Whatever I put my attention on, it grows and expands. The universe doesn’t distinguish between what’s “good” or “bad” for any of us. It isn't logical - it's simply obedient. It responds to where we put our attention (conscious or unconscious), and gives us more of that. Where do you direct your attention? Is it on what you want, or what you don't want? Because either way, the Universe will respond. I invite
you to focus in on what you really really really want. WOW.
