ANTI-AGING:
Natural Methods of Slowing the Cellular Clock

Why We Age
Bottom line: the DNA in our cells accumulates damage, and then the cells don’t function as well, and ultimately mutate, age and die. There are other factors at work, but this is what it basically boils down to.

What Can We Do?
So what makes sense is that we do what we can to maintain healthy functioning of cells. And there are a number of natural steps you can take.

Why?
Why bother? Well, I don’t know about you, but I plan to live to a ripe old age as an active, energetic, healthy human being until it’s my time to check out. I can live with a few wrinkles (and I do stress "a few"), but I intend to stay a full-out energetic healthy player. My motto is, after all, "Live, Love & Laugh!" So I intend to age gracefully.

What Causes the Damage?
Oxidizing agents are the primary culprits, and free radicals are strong oxidizing agents. A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron, and they’re damaging to the body because they rip electrons off other molecules to try and pair up their single electron. They cannot be avoided, as they are produced by the body for essential functions (like breathing). However, they’re also found in the environment (tobacco smoke, pollution, certain chemicals, etc.) and in many of the products we put in and on our bodies every day. The more free radicals racing around your system, wreaking havoc, the more suppressed your immune system becomes, the more toxic you get, the more stressed you are, and the faster your cells age and die.

What Now?
There are a number of steps you can take, the basics of which follow. They are all guaranteed to slow down and even repair some of the damage, rejuvenate, boost your immune system, and leave you feeling less stressed, more energized and vital.

But I've since learned to thank my body for the message it's giving me when cellulite starts showing up, and then nip it in the bud. What's the message, besides "I've got a lumpy rear and thighs"? Cellulite is simply a sign of toxicity and a clogged lymphatic system.

WHY WATER?

  • Water is an important stimulus in decreasing fat deposits and keeping the excess off.

  • Studies have shown that drinking water helps your body metabolize stored fat.

  • Studies also show that decreasing your water intake increases fat deposits, while increasing water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.

    HOW CAN WATER DECREASE FAT?

    It's your kidneys and liver.
Your kidneys can't do their job properly without enough water.
When your kidneys don't do their job, then the liver has to help out.
One of the liver's jobs is metabolizing stored fat into fuel for your body.
BUT, if the liver's getting distracted helping the kidneys, it can't do it's job properly either.
So what happens? It metabolizes less fat, and more fat stacks up.
Your body needs water to help metabolize fat, and bodies with more fat need more water.
Drink more water, and more fat is used as fuel.

    WHAT ELSE DOES WATER DO?

    Helps keep good muscle tone.
Water assists muscles maintain the ability to contract and averts dehydration.
It can prevent sagging skin that can come with weight loss.
Plus it assists in "plumping" the skin, leaving it clear, healthy and flexible.

    Helps eliminate waste products.
You have to flush out all that metabolized fat.
When you lose fat, your body has a lot more waste to eliminate.
Water helps rid your body of all that waste.

    Helps detoxify.
Toxins build up in our system, no matter how healthy we are.
Water helps flush toxins out of your system.
This helps everything in your body operate the way it's supposed to.

    Helps keep skin flawless.
Excess toxins are one of the primary causes of skin problems.
If you're keeping toxins to a minimum by drinking lots of water,
you'll soon notice an improvement in your skin.
It also helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles by keeping skin cells "plumped" and healthy.

    Helps ease constipation.
The colon is a primary internal source of water.
If your body's not getting enough water, it'll try to get it internally.
When it uses water from your colon, you end up with constipation.
Drinking plenty of water will most times return your bowel behaviour to normal.

HOW MUCH WATER DO I DRINK?
On average, eight 8oz glasses of purified or bottled water per day.
Overweight people need more water - an extra glass for every 20 pounds of excess weight.
Drink more water when you exercise.
Drink more water if you drink coffee or alcohol.
Add more water when it's hot and dry.

WHEN'S IT BEST TO DRINK WATER?
Ideally, 1 litre in the morning, in the afternoon and in the early evening.
Make sure you also drink water before, during and after any kind of exercise.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP DRINKING WATER?
Well, your body functions will be thrown out of whack again.
You may gain weight, retain water, get constipated, and have your skin break out.
Uh oh! But don't despair - all you have to do is start drinking your water again!

A DEEPER LOOK AT COMPATABILITY
for creating a powerful partnership

How this Began

Someone asked me the other day, "If I want the 'right' partner next time, what can I do differently than what I've done in the past?" I laughed and replied, "Interview! Intensively!"

Looking rather intrigued, she asked, "What exactly do you mean by interview?"

"Well, first of all, it's important to know who you are. (See next article on Dharma). Once you know who you are, it's important to know what you want. And once you know what you want, then you need to ask a lot of questions to see if you've actually attracted it!"

Frown. "Like ... what sign are you, what car do you drive, that type of thing?"

Oh boy. "Have you considered looking at deeper levels of compatability?" I inquired.

"Huh?"

The Quest

Well, this prompted me to start asking people if they knew about the deeper levels of compatability. I got a lot of blank looks, a few mutters, some interesting propositions ... but most of all, I got a lot of curiousity and intrigue.

That's when I realized this information, at it's most basic level, needs to become more accessible. When choosing a potential partner, or evaluating your existing partnership for that matter, here are crucial areas to review.

And when I say interview, I mean interview! This is not for the meek of heart. Make a date, get their undivided attention, and bring on your questions. Ask clearly. Be straightforward. Look in their eyes. Probe. Trust your intuition. Follow up by phone and email. If this isn't a match, the sooner you know the better. And when you start a connection with someone this powerfully and openly, the sky's the limit in terms of where it can go.

Remember, there's no right or wrong answers. This isn't about judgment. How do the answers match in relation to you? How much in alignment are they with your type? Is this person a realistic match for you? Be honest ... the signals are usually there right from Day 1. And don't forget ... you should know your own answers to these questions before you start with anyone else!

1. The Mind

How does this person's mind work? (logical, analytical, creative, etc)
How well do they listen and actually hear?
Do I enjoy listening to this person?
Do we laugh together?
Does this person let me finish my thoughts, or interrupt my sentences?
Does this person grasp ideas quickly?
Does this person show up or hide?
Does this person believe in keeping secrets or go for full disclosure?
Do I feel free to express myself with this person?
Does this person see the big picture or are they narrow focused?
Do they lead or follow?

2. The Intellect & Core Values

What makes this person tick?
What are their core values around family, health, sexuality, spirituality, lifestyle, etc?
What is this person's past relationship history?
How did their last relationship(s) end?
Are they friendly with, do battle with, or freeze out their ex?
What is their relationship like with their parents?
Does this person blame (finger-pointing) or take responsibility?
Does this person have courage? (feels the fear, but takes action anyway)
Does this person have a history of expanding their knowledge and personal growth?
Will they attend a personal growth seminar and/or retreat?
Does this person have/want/like children?
Is this person a vegetarian, meat-eater, or something in between?
Does this person smoke?
Does this person drink, and how much?
Does this person indulge in recreational drugs?
Does this person take responsibility for their own feelings and reactions?
Does this person take action, or do they just "talk the walk"?

3. The Energy

How do you energetically feel with this person?
Are they scattered and twitchy, or are they calm and grounded?
Does this person seem angry or peaceful?
Do they seem passionate or indifferent?
How comfortable is this person with eye contact?
What kind of work does this person do?
Are they excited about their career, or is it "just a job"?
Do they like to dance? And would they dance naked in the moonlight?

4. The Physical Body

How does it feel to hug this person's body?
Do you like this person's smell? (you gotta get reasonably close for this one - hugs are good!)
Does this person take care of their physical body?
Do they exercise regularly?
If so, what type? (e.g. yoga, walk, ski, hike, swim, golf, bowl, etc)
Are they clean-shaven or bearded?
Do you find this person physically attractive?
Does this person have a genuine smile?
If this person was food, would you eat them? (and find them delicious!)
What size is this person? (Yes, I do mean THAT - an extra small one and an extra large one just don't mix well together!)

5. The Soul

Is spirituality an important component to you?
Where exactly is this person on their spiritual path in relation to yours?
Does it "feel" as well as sound compatible? (remember, trust that intuition)
Does this person enjoy touching/being touched?
Do they enjoy massage?
What is this person's perception of the connection between the soul and sexuality?
Does this person see sacred sexuality as a pathway to connecting with the divine?
What does this person do to nurture their soul?
Is this person willing to be happy instead of right?

And the final question of all questions to ask, "The next time you enter a relationship, what would the purpose of the relationship be for you?" Listen carefully to the answer on this one - they usually mean it!

Author's Note: This article was inspired in large part by the Vedic teachings of Jeffrey Armstrong, Ayurvedic Astrologer and Yogi. View his website at www.jeffreyarmstrong.com for more information. And, of course, all sacred wisdom originates from the source who guides us all ... God, the divine creator. May we all walk in peace and remember who we really are, and that the only real truth is LOVE. Namaste.

DHARMA & CREATING UNLIMITED WEALTH

The Law of Dharma
by Dr. Deepak Chopra

"Everyone has a purpose in life ... a unique gift or special talent to give others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals."

The seventh spiritual law of success is the Law of Dharma. Dharma is a Sanskrit word that means "purpose in life". The Law of Dharma says that we have taken physical form to fulfill a purpose.

According to this law, you have a unique talent and a unique way of expressing it. There is something that you can do better than anyone else in the whole world - and for every unique talent and unique expression of that talent, there are also unique needs. When those needs are matched with the creative expression of your talent, that is the spark that creates affluence. Expressing your talents to fulfill needs creates unlimited wealth and abundance.

If you could start children right from the beginning with this thought, you'd see the effect it has on their lives. In fact, I did this with my own children. Again and again, I told them there was a reason why they were here, and they had to find out what that reason was for themselves.

From the age of four, they heard this. I also taught them to meditate when they were about the same age. I told them, "I never, ever want you to worry about making a living. If you're unable to make a living when you grow up, I'll provide for you, so don't worry about that. I don't want you to focus on doing well in school. I don't want you to focus on getting the best grades or going to the best colleges. What I really want you to focus on is asking yourself how you can serve humanity, and asking yourself what your unique talents are. Because you have a unique talent that no one else has, and you have a special way of expressing that talent, and no one else has it."

They ended up going to the best schools, getting the best grades, and in college they are unique being financially self-sufficient, because they are focused on what they are here to give. This, then, is the Law of Dharma.

There are three components to the Law of Dharma.

The first component says that each of us is here to discover our true Self, to find out on our own that our true Self is spiritual. We're not human beings that have occasional spiritual experiences - it's the other way around; we're spiritual beings that have occasional human experiences.

The second component of the Law of Dharma is to express our unique talents. The Law of Dharma says that every human being has a unique talent. You have a talent that is unique in its expression, so unique that there's no one else alive on this planet that has that talent, or that expression of that talent. This means that there's one thing you can do, and one way of doing it, that is better than anyone else on this entire planet. When you're doing that one thing, you lose track of time. When you're expressing that one unique talent that you possess - or more than one unique talent in many cases - the expression of that talent takes you into timeless awareness.

The third component of the Law of Dharma is service to humanity - to serve your fellow human beings and to ask yourself the questions, "How can I help? How can i help all those that I come into contact with?"

When you combine the ability to express your unique talent with service to humanity, then you make full use of the Law of Dharma. And coupled with the experience of your own spirituality, there is no way you will not have access to unlimited abundance, because that is the way real abundance is achieved.

This is not temporary abundance; it's permanent, because of your unique talent, your way of expressing it, and you service and dedication to your fellow human beings, which you discover through asking the question, "How can I help?" instead of "What's in it for me?"

The question, "What's in it for me?" is the internal dialogue of the ego. Asking, "How can I help?" is the internal dialogue of the spirit. In just shifting your internal dialogue from "What's in it for me" to "How can I help?" you automatically go beyond the ego into the domain of your spirit. While meditation is the most useful way of entering the domain of the spirit, simply shifting your internal dialogue to "How can I help?" will also access the spirit.

If you want to make maximum use of the Law of Dharma, then you have to make several commitments.

The first commitment is: I am going to seek my higher Self, which is beyond my ego, through spiritual practice.

The second commitment is: I am going to discover my unique talents, and finding my unique talents, I am going to enjoy myself, because the process of enjoyment occurs when I go into timeless awareness. That's when I am in a state of bliss.

The third commitment is: I am going to ask myself how I am best suited to serve humanity. I am going to answer that question and then put it into practice. I am going to use my unique talents to serve the needs of my fellow human beings - I will match those needs to my desire to help and serve others.

Sit down and make a list to these two questions: Ask yourself, if money was no concern and you had all the time and money in the world, what would you do? [after the vacation!] If you would still do what you currently do, then you are in dharma, because you have passion for what you do - you are expressing your unique talents. Then ask yourself: How am I best suited to serve humanity? Answer that question, and put it into practice.

Discover your spiritual Self, find your unique talent, serve humanity with it, and you can generate all the wealth that you want. When your creative expressions match the needs of your fellow humans, then wealth will spontaneously flow from the realm of spirit to the world of form.

You will begin to experience your life as a miraculous expression of divinity - not just occasionally, but all the time. And you will know true joy and the true meaning of success - the ecstasy and exultation of your own spirit.

As Buddha once said ...

"This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds
To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance
A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky
Rushing by like a torrent down a steep mountain."

We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment, but it is transient. It is a little parenthesis in eternity. If we share with caring, lightheartedness and love, we will create abundance and joy for each other. And then this moment will have been worthwhile.
